Editing Services and Writing Tips

Welcome to Editing Services!

My low-cost editing and proofreading is designed with the student in mind. You will receive my proofreading and APA style editing comments in MS Words revision mode along with an email explaining my suggested changes. My goal is to teach you APA paper style so you will be able to edit your own papers. I want to work myself out of a job!

Remember that APA Writing and Referencing Style is exactly that--a writing style and a formatting/referencing style (title pages, in text references, reference pages, and headings). The best way to learn how to write using the APA Style guidelines is to BUY THE BOOK!!! I know, it is expensive; it is bulky; it is hard to read. BUY it anyway. Then read it...

If you are struggling with the formatting of your references and the title page there are software templates available that will save you some time and frustration in setting up your paper. BEWARE, they do NOT substitute for understanding and having a working knowledge of APA editorial style. There are many versions out there and I have not used any of them (I prefer the manual.), but others swear by these software templates. Some to look into are:

APA TIPS:

Parts of a Manuscript:

There are several parts of a manuscript, but this tip will focus on the Title Page. The title page first contains the header . This is placed above the main portion of the manuscript. It contains a shortened title and the page number 1. There are 5 spaces between the end of the title and the page number. The easiest way to do this is go to Insert on the Word tool bar and pick page number.

The first line of the title page is the Running head . The words Running head precede the head and end in a colon. The running head is written in all capital letters and contains the essential parts of the title. It cannot excede 50 characters including spaces.

The title, author byline and institutional affiliation (with city and state) are all centered and double spaced. If you are writing a classroom paper, your professor may require course number and section and the date. Be sure to follow instructions.
